This is only a snipet of what's going on in Malta and Gozo during the month of February! Check out our Facebook group "University Language School" for weekly updates.
6th: Paul Van Dyk Volume World Tour 2010! - This hugely famous German electronic music artist is visiting our humble shores. Concert will be held at Bay Arena in St.Julians. Check out all the info at www.freshevents.info
8th & 9th: Chinese Spring Festival - In celebration of The Year of the Tiger, Valletta is putting on a visual feast! Acrobatics, lion dances, puppetry and costumes are only some of the activities planned over these two days. Don't miss out!
10th: Public Holiday: Feast of St Paul - This is the first feast in the Maltese calendar year - and as such, is always a popular and festive occasion. Held in Valletta, the procession travels down Merchant Street and up Republic Street before resting at the Parish Church of St. Paul Shipwrecked. This festival commemorates the shipwreck of the Apostle St Paul on the Maltese Islands, an event which took place in 60 AD and which is recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. Don't forget your camera for this event - and also some confetti.
12th-14th: Nadur Carnival - Ready for a CRAZY weekend? This annual event is notorious for its rather weird, hilarious, and often macabre costume parade. Like the carnival held in Malta, this also includes decorated floats, dancing, music - but with a twist. It's a hit with students - so book your hotel early or you might miss out!
12th-14th: "Are you being Served?" - For those among us who love British humour - check out this piece of theatre. Held at the majestic Manoel Theatre in Valletta, this play will be preformed over two weekends. Book online at bookings@teatrumanoel.com.mt
12th-16th: Malta Carnival - Carnival in Malta is tamer than its northern island neighbor. It has more of a children and family atmosphere. Held in Valletta and Floriana there are dance competitions in Freedom square, massive floats towering over buses in the bus terminus, finale fireworks and, of course, the crowds of costumed people out to see and be seen. Both carnivals stem back into history - and if there's one local event you have to see - it one of these!
