Holy Week and Easter
Good Friday and Easter are HUGE in Malta. Churches are decorated in purple or black velvet and speakers are attached to lamp-posts so everyone can hear the church services. On Good Friday, "The Passion of the Christ" is commemorated by parades of statues carried by biblically dresses particpants. On Easter Day people eat a traditional cake (filgolla) shaped like either a sheep or duck, filled with almond paste. It's actually quite delicious :)
