April 5th - Palm Sunday
This feast commemorates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalam, and is celebrated in various parishes around Malta and Gozo. If you are walking around on Sunday, you can't miss it!
April 5th to 12th - Holy Week and Easter
Good Friday and Easter are HUGE in Malta. Churches are decorated in purple or black velvet and speakers are attached to lamp-posts so everyone can hear the church services. On Good Friday, "The Passion of the Christ" is commemorated by parades of statues carried by biblically dresses particpants. On Easter Day people eat a traditional cake (filgolla) shaped like either a sheep or duck, filled with almond paste. It's actually quite delicious :)
April 6th to June 30th - Art & Craft Courses at the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce
These classes are fantastic value for money! Stone sculpturing, lace craft, sewing, woodwork, figure drawing, bridal bouquets....and more. All the courses will be held at Palazzo De La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta, from Monday to Saturday between 0900h and 1200h or 1630h and 1930h. Each morning or evening session will run once a week. Each course lasts 10 sessions. There will also be a beginners' course on the Maltese Language available for foreigners residing in Malta.

April 8th to 10th – The Last Supper Table at Lija
For those interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the Christian event of Easter, you may want to visit this local exhibition of the Last Supper. It displays a replica of Last Supper Table according to Jewish custom and is complete with commentary every 15 minutes.

April 18th & 19th - Medieval Mdina Festival
If you happen to visit Mdina on either of these days you may well wonder "what is going on?" Experience life in the middle ages with jousting competitions, knights in shining armour and traditional home-cooking.

April 30th & June 1st - Malta Fireworks Festival
This annual FREE firework spectacular will take place at the Grand Harbour, Valletta. The show will open at 21:30 with a 15-minute firework display designed by a foreign pyrotechnic company and will follow with local factories competing for a trophy and prize money. The best places to sit and watch this event are either from Lascaris Wharf or from the top of the bastions looking down on Grand Harbour.
